Just finished a full day of workshops with local artists at ARC Stockton which saw artists coming from as far afield as Leeds and as close as Thornaby. Interesting to learn more about how the local dynamics work in terms of what’s going on where and perhaps more vitally how people get about to access opportunity.
While the local towns on Teeside are clustered along the valley, public transport is not abundant and we’ve worked out the cost of travel by train is more costly getting about the North East than the North West. As a consequence, most people descend on and choose to live in Newcastle as there is more to do.
But that’s not to say there’s nothing going on locally. There appears to be a large number of theatre makers and writers in the North East as opposed to, say, performers. However, there are some amazing local performers- enough to provide a full set of Queer entertainments at our very first North East Mother’s Bloomers event at Arc Stockton on 16th November 2017 which we’re excited about.
