Artist Development

Mother’s Ruin delivers an Artist Development Programme which offers performance training workshops, advice surgeries, 1-2-1 support and directorial and professional guidance as part of it’s on-going delivery to LGBTQ+ artists in the North. This work is supported by regional venues and Arts Council England.

Mother’s Bloomers is our on-going development platform where we select and work with a group of LGBTQ+ artists to develop and showcase new work. This programme is presented in association with Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and presented in their Studio space. Mother’s Bloomers programmes and events have also been delivered at ARC Stockton, Kings Arms (Salford) and West Yorkshire Playhouse.

To date, work showcased at Mother’s Bloomers has been commissioned and presented at Contact, Waterside Arts, Hope Mill Theatre, HOME, The Marlborough, The Albany Deptford, Queer Arts North and been picked up for rural and regional touring programmes.

As part of our 2019 programme, 8 LGBTQ+ artists from Manchester and the NW were selected to develop and present bold short new works as part of a diverse bill hosted by Fat Roland at Royal Exchange Theatre studio, Manchester on Saturday 16 November 2019. Artists included Mandla Rae, Tom Halls, Rachael Kelly, Kate Stonestreet, Adam John Roberts, Maz Hedgehog, Caitlin Gleeson, Dorian Wilde.

Mother’s Ruin Artist Development Programme is supported by Arts Council England and Cake Tin Foundation.
